1920 - elbert w. Allen founds the company in 1922. (talk about shoes that last.) 1930 - allen finds a new partner in william Edmonds, who hits the road in search of new customers. 1940 - during wwii, the military awards contracts to Allen Edmonds. Thousands of thankful enlisted men become lifelong customers. 1950 - like father, like son: Bert Allen carries the family-owned company into its second generation. 1960 - Bert Allen travels the world demonstrating the superior quality of Allen Edmonds shoes in a long-running ad campaign. 1970 - boyd and ralph allen follow in bert's footsteps. John stollenwerk becomes the company's international sales representative. 1980 - john stollenwerk buys the company, then rebuilds it from the ground up after a fire destroys the original factory. 1990 - Allen Edmonds undergoes the biggest expansion in its history, with new styles and new stores across the country.
